Each year, the Police Officer Assistance Trust (POAT) sponsors the Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children program. This program symbolizes law enforcement and the community reaching out and remembering the children of those officers who gave their lives protecting and serving the rest of us. In 2013, there were 64 children, representing 14 law enforcement agencies, of officers who died in the line of duty or while on active duty. Featured above, are some of the officers whose children are provided gifts and a check thanks to the donations received for this worthy cause.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who responded to our request for assistance in staffing the donation table at various malls in the area. These volunteers and donors allowed POAT to raise the needed funds for the program.
Because of the efforts of such dedicated individuals, Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children 2013 was a success. You are to be commended for your role in this project and enabling POAT to live up to our motto, “Serving Those Who Serve.” Your commitment to fellow members of the law enforcement community, the generous giving of your time, and support of POAT are greatly appreciated.
