The Motorcycle Ride to benefit POAT’s Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children will be held on Sunday May 6, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.  The ride begins at the Miami-Dade Police Department Headquarters Building, 9105 NW 25 Street. Registration for the event is $20 per bike.  A commemorative t-shirt will be given to each registered rider (while supplies last). Online registration will be available soon on our website www.poat.org

The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony will be held at Tropical Park beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018.  All Miami-Dade County officers who have died in the line of duty dating back to 1895, are honored at this ceremony.  It is our duty to honor the memory of those officers who have died protecting and serving the citizens of Miami-Dade County.  If you have never been to this ceremony, you owe it to yourself to attend.

The POAT Board of Directors and the entire Miami-Dade County law enforcement community would like to thank Andy Valdes, owner of A American Painting and Concrete Restoration, for repairing and painting the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall, with the help of his wonderful crew, just in time for our upcoming event.

Annual Remembering Our Fallen Heroes Memorial Golf Outing, will be held at the exclusive Indian Creek Country Club on Monday, May 7, 2018. Golfers throughout South Florida will be teeing up for a chance to assist Miami-Dade County fallen officers’ families.  The entrance fee is $250.00 per golfer.  This fee includes breakfast and a buffet luncheon at the Clubhouse following play. Come help support your law enforcement community as you enjoy an extraordinary day of golf at this exceptional and restricted venue. The Town of Cutler Bay is coordinating a Fun Ride Golf Cart Parade to raise funds for POAT. The parade will be held on Saturday June 2, 2018 at Cutler Ridge Park (10100 SW 200th Street) A $20 donation per golf cart can be paid via online registration (www.eventbrite.com) or cash on event day. Registration starts at 2:00 p.m. and the parade starts at 3:00 p.m. There will be music, food, drinks, Police K9, Aviation, Bomb Squad Exhibits and more…

Come join us for the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, April 21, 2018.  The walk starts at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m., at Virginia Key Beach.  This is a fun family day at the beach while supporting a good cause. All of the officers and/or their family members who are affected by diabetes are grateful and humbled by the momentum this event has gained over the years and the overwhelming response from the law enforcement community.  POAT has raised $818,594 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) since we began participating in 2003.  To register to walk for the POAT Team, log onto www.JDRF.org; navigate to the Miami Walk and complete the registration, designating POAT as your team when that specific field appears.  Remember, this is a fundraiser which requires everyone who walks to raise money for JDRF to help fund research worldwide.  We look forward to your participation and support for the POAT Walk Team. Christopher W. Todd Law Related Majors Scholarship (also available to officers)

The Homerun for Heroes Kickball Tournament Great times had by all and memories made!  Thank you for a wonderful turnout and for all the support. The next tournament will be held January 18-19, 2019. The final standings for 2018 were:

The Cops Ride for Kids Motorcycle Ride to benefit POAT’s Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children consisted of 670 motorcyclists enjoying a beautiful day with a ride to the Keys. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the ride and the coordinators who put this together.  The next ride is scheduled for May 2018.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedule to work one of the donation tables at the malls this holiday season.  The joy our efforts bring to the children of our fallen brothers and sisters is huge, and all of the volunteers who helped raise funds for this meaningful program should take great pride in a job well done.  I know I speak for all of the surviving children when we say, “Thank You!”

The Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children fundraising begins on Friday November 24, 2017. This program is in its twentieth year. The program remembers the children of officers that have died, leaving behind minor children, which started back in 1997 by a long time POAT supporter retired MDPD Sgt. Dave Greenwell.  You can help by volunteering at staff tables set-up at Aventura Mall, Dadeland Mall, The Falls Shopping Center and International Mall.  The coordinators are:
This is the only time of year when POAT is in a public setting and has the opportunity to explain what we are about.   This year, we will purchase gifts for 61 surviving children. A large contingent of volunteers is needed to fill all of the vacancies at the various malls. Please do your part by targeting a mall where you would like to assist and contact the coordinator. The tables open on Black Friday, November 24th and will be set-up until December 23rd.

Join us at Society Barbell and Fitness in Downtown Miami located directly on the Miami River as we raise funds and spread awareness for the guardians of our community, the local law enforcement.  Tony Carvajal, head coach and director of programming at Society Barbell will be leading a group workout to honor those who serve our community. The sweat will be followed by a yoga cool down lead by Claire Santos, former United States Marine and trauma yoga teacher. Organic refreshments and food will be provided by local businesses. All proceeds will go to the Police Officer Assistance Trust (P.O.A.T.).

9/11 Ceremony
The 9-11 Ceremony will be held at the Law Enforcement Memorial site in Tropical Park on September 11, 2017 at 9:30 am.  This ceremony honors our country’s police and firefighter heroes who were killed in the line of duty responding to the attacks on our nation. It is important that we never forget all of the heroes that perished that tragic day.
