The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony was a very moving event for all in attendance. Unfortunately, four names were added to the Wall of Honor this year:
Officer Eva Mae Jones, Miami-Dade Corrections
Officer Jorge Sanchez, Miami Police Department
Officer Henry Mc Aleenan Jr., Miami-Dade Police Department
Agent Rickey O’Donald, Federal Bureau of Investigations
All of the speeches from family members and colleagues were very touching. We would like to thank everyone involved in the planning and implementation of another memorable ceremony honoring all of our fallen heroes, as well as all of you who attended.
The Motorcycle Ride to benefit POAT’s Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children was held on Sunday, May 7, 2017. From all of us here at the Police Officer Assistance Trust (POAT), and all of the children who continue to receive gifts every holiday because of your generosity and assistance, we want to thank you for your continued support of our Cops Ride for Kids. Our May 2017 ride was a success with over 600 motorcycles participating in the ride to Islamorada. Unfortunately, we also had a horrific event occur before our ride. As most of you are aware, Major Ricky Carter was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on I-75. Major Carter was travelling to the POAT Motorcycle Ride benefitting the surviving children of fallen officers; the same organization that now stands to provide assistance to Ricky and his family. Donations for him can be made at www.poat.org. Click on the Give Direct icon and type “Ricky Carter” in the comment section.
On Saturday, April 29, 2017 the POAT Walk Team participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes at Virginia Key Beach was a great success. The POAT walk team raised $36,280 in sponsorship and donations. Thanks to everyone for your continued support year after year.
Thank you for your support and stay safe!
