Wishing all the father’s a very Happy Father’s Day!

On Saturday, April 21, 2018 the POAT Walk Team participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes at Virginia Key Beach was a great success. The POAT walk team raised $28,460 in sponsorship and donations. Thanks to everyone for your continued support year after year.

The 37th Annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony was held on Thursday, May 3, 2018, as we honored federal, state, and municipal officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving the citizens of Miami-Dade County.  These brave men and women left behind husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, and partners.

It has been 30 years since Miami-Dade Police Department Officers David Strzalkowski and Richard Boles were shot and killed.  Officer Strzalkowski sons Eric and Sean, both deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office paid tribute to their father.  Both Eric and Sean serve as mentors for Outward Bound Retreats for young adults, a Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) program who have lost a parent in the line-of-duty.

It has also been 30 years since Miami Beach Officer Scott Rakow was shot and killed while chasing a subject, leaving behind a 6-month-old baby girl.  This baby girl has grown into a beautiful young woman with a 1-year-old baby girl of her own.  Erica Rakow-Reynolds is an accomplished news reporter who served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.  Erica reminded those in attendance that… we are in this together.  We are family.

The Motorcycle Ride to benefit POAT’s Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children was held on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. It was another well-organized and enjoyable ride to the Florida Keys supporting our Holiday Gifts for Surviving Children. We would like to thank Rudy Gonzalez and his crew for once again coordinating another great event benefiting a great cause. Thank you to all that participated in the ride and be looking for the next ride in December.
