Support POAT

The Police Officer Assistance Trust (P.O.A.T.) was founded under the auspices of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police in 1989 as a support organization for the law enforcement community and their families in times of need. This need is most often financial, but extends to other areas as well. POAT offers assistance to all sworn officers in Miami-Dade County from federal, state, county, and municipal agencies.

POAT has provided over 800 officers with more than $6 million in assistance. Your contribution makes these efforts possible!

The Police Officer Assistance Trust is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Please consult your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your deductions.

Other ways to help

Payroll Deductions

Sworn law enforcement officers and civilian employees can donate through payroll deductions or through their department’s United Way campaign. Please contact us if you are not sure if your department/agency already participates in one of these programs. POAT is a proud participant of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). If you are employed by the federal government, you can choose to make your payroll donation by choosing #68382 in the CFC Directory.

Host or Sponsor a Special Event

Individuals, corporations, and labor and fraternal police organizations can make donations to POAT. Many sponsor special events to raise funds. From golf tournaments to 5K walks, poker tournaments to bike treks and fishing tournaments, groups of people all across the county raise funds to help our organization. Businesses can sponsor various POAT fundraisers to help surviving families and other assistance cases. If you have any idea for an event, please contact our office to discuss.

Attention: Law Enforcement Personnel

Here is a way to support POAT through plea bargain negotiations in court. If you have a defendant who requests to pay a fine in lieu of serving community service hours, you can request that the funds be sent to POAT. Payment can be made in person, mailed to our office at 1030 NW 111th Avenue, Suite 232, Miami FL 33172 or paid online at www.poat.org. What better way to support the families of fallen officers and those in critical need?

Matching Gifts

Many companies have matching gifts programs through which they can double or sometimes even triple the charitable donations made by their employees. Through corporate gift matching, your employer can multiply your donation to POAT. Check with your company’s Human Resources office to see if they offer gift matching and to find out about their contribution criteria. If your employer does offer this program, your Human Resources department should provide you with a matching gift form or online form. If your company doesn’t have a program in place, ask them to start one.

POAT does not solicit funds by telephone. Should you ever receive a telephone solicitation on behalf of POAT, get as much information as you can from the caller and notify our office immediately.
